THE FINALISTS (‘Hunting Knife’ single launch)
In November 2020, The Finalists released their debut album First on the iconic Sydney record label Half A Cow. Its first two singles received widespread community radio airplay across Australia and ‘Learn To Live Without You’ was selected as a Best New Australian Music track by The Guardian. The AU Review described the song as “The jangly guitars and warm harmonies glisten brightly. It’s all class.â€Â With a sound that draws on the group’s collective music history playing in a number of bands in Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand, they’ve concocted a blend of jangly guitar-based indie rock, with elements of psych-rock, shoegaze and post-punk threading through their debut album. This show is the launch for the third single from First, ‘Hunting Knife’ (May 21st)
The Electorate released their debut LP You Don’t Have Time To Stay Lost in September 2020 and it was selected as a 2SER feature album, was awarded 4.5 out of 5 stars from Rolling Stone and garnered great reviews from Bernard Zuel, US Indie mag The Big Takeover and Backseat Mafia. The Electorate originally formed as school kids with a love of melody, contortion and the energy of skewed pop. They played as The Templebears, kicking around the traps and releasing EPs but as they prepared to record their debut, they splintered. The individual members went off to play in bands like Big Heavy Stuff, The Apartments, Knievel, Atticus, Reality Instructors, Imperial Broads. They re-assembled for a one off gig and got sucked back into the universe their songs had created, and set about recording the album they were always meant to make.
Golden Fang, a melodic guitar band that captures the joys and contradictions of life in Sydney’s Inner West, are an indie rock group in the truest sense – independently releasing their own unique blend of rock music since 2014. Cast an ear back across the last three decades and you’ll hear the influence of the Pixies, The Drones and Straitjacket Fits mixing sonically with the dirty grooves of the Bad Seeds and The Cruel Sea. Like local Sydney acts such as Peabody, Bluebottle Kiss and Crow, Golden Fang are a band that know how to harness poetry and visceral rock ’n’ roll. Last year they released their fourth album here. not here.
